Brenna Huckaby is a mother, she’s a cancer survivor and a Gold Medal winning Paralympian. A pretty inspiring résumé! But the 22 year old snowboarder can now add ‘Sex Symbol’ to that long list of accomplishments after becoming the first Paralympic Athlete to pose for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
After a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma Cancer Brenna had her leg amputated above the knee which ended her Gymnastic career, but a hospital rehabilitation trip to Park City Utah would introduce her to Snowboarding. Having never ridden a snowboard before Brenna became determined to master this new sport, and the rest is history!
Within a few years Brenna would be competing, and winning, as a Paralympian at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games in South Korea. Taking home gold medals in the Boardercross and Banked Slalom events.
I love feeling sexy in front of the camera! It’s super empowering!-BRENNA HUCKABY-
Using the photo shoot as an opportunity to inspire others with body positivity issues she hope to help change the stigma behind disabilities and how disabled people are viewed by others, along with how they view themselves:
“I haven’t always been comfortable with my body. When I was a teenager I would wear shorts with my swimsuit. I would rarely take my prosthetic off in front of other people. I was afraid of what people would think of me because I didn’t think very highly of myself.”
